CropBox & MediaBox

CropBox vs MediaBox — What's the Difference?

The MediaBox defines the full physical size of a PDF page. The CropBox defines the visible/printable region within that page. Most PDF viewers display the CropBox region. Setting the CropBox trims the visible area without removing the underlying content. Setting the MediaBox shrinks the page itself. For most use cases (removing scan borders, fitting content) setting the CropBox is sufficient.

Yes. Use the Remove Margins preset which applies a 10mm crop to all four sides, or manually enter exact values for each side. This is useful for removing scan borders, printer margins, or excess white space from PDFs.

PDF cropping adjusts the CropBox or MediaBox of each page which changes the visible area, but does not remove the underlying content beyond the crop boundary. The file size may remain similar. Use a dedicated PDF compress tool to reduce file size.

Yes. Use the Page Scope dropdown to select All Pages, a Page Range (e.g. 1-3,5), Odd Pages Only, Even Pages Only, First Page Only, or Last Page Only. Pages outside the scope are included unchanged in the output.
